Era uses an automated system to detect speed hacking. Speed hacking programs work by raising the frames per second of the game. This causes the game to run faster than on computers of other players, and gives you an unfair advantage.

Certain programs can also cause this to be triggered:

  • Some "overclocking" software increases the FPS of your computer instead of actually overclocking the hardware. This is not real overclocking software, and will be treated the same as speed hacking. You should remove this software to play Era.
  • Programs which advertise to "speed up" your computer sometimes work by increasing the frame rate instead of actually increasing the speed of the computer. This can make your computer feel like it moves faster, but it does not actually improve the speed your computer accomplishes tasks. This software cannot be used with Era.

Using these programs produces the same effect as using an actual speed hacking utility, which is why they are treated the same way. If you are jailed for speed hacking, remove the offending program and contact a staff member. In most cases they will unjail you for a first offense.

Note: The speed hacking detection is completely automated, so don't try to talk your way out of it by blaming a staff member for not liking you or a player for accusing you.
